One of the most common things we get asked about–besides how we make our paellas taste so great- is our recommendations of great places to eat and see while in Barcelona. That is why we have created a new series, one where we take your hand and guide you through our favorite spots in town and yes, far away from all the repited touristy options you will find in the lists of common searches.
Today is chef Alex’s turn. He’ll walk with your through his idea of the perfect day in sunny Barcelona and, if you are looking for hidden gems to enjoy great food. You’ve arrived to the right place!
Start the day by having brunch at restaurante Caravelle located in the heart of the up and coming Raval Neighbourhood. After filling up on coffee and delicious food make your way over to the MNAC (Museum of National Art of Catalunya). On your way there, make sure to take a stop at plaza Espanya and gaze over to Montjuïc Mountain to fully appreciate the grandeur of MNAC and Montjuïc. After making your way up and taking in the breathtaking views of the city underneath you, take a 5 minute stroll over to Barcelona’s Olympic Games Village.
Now, it’s nature’s time! Pack a picnic and sit in the many green areas to enjoy the sun and a nice bottle of wine or get a quick bite on Blai street, a 2km stretch dedicated to tapas and delicious pintxos. After lunch, take a stroll on paseo Colón and see some of the worlds largest and most impresive yatchs or take a seat on one of the many bars on colon and have a cold beer or a nice glass of wine before heading to your accommodations and getting ready for the night.
After you are ready to go out, make a stop at The Edition Hotel (my favourite rooftop in the city), located in the hipster district of El Born and make your way to the rooftop patio to try their signature beer Doble Mico (two monkeys). Once you’ve taken in all the fantastic ocean view, start planing on making your way over to my favorite place in the city, The Paella Club, for the Full Menu Experience. There, you will have a night full of cultural stimulation revolving around food, bottomless wine paring in a hands on cooking session.
After the workshop has concluded and you have shared a meal with travellers alike, finish off the last glass of wine and make your way over to one of the many bars and clubs that Barcelona nightlife is famous for!
If you are more into quaint bars with live music, make a stop at Ocaña located in the Plaza Real in the heart of the gothic Quarter, you’ll find plenty of nightly live shows ranging from jazz all the way to acoustic Spanish guitar.
You can stop by Berimbau if you are looking for for a longer night out in the Born district, a bar where Barcelona and Brazil merge to create some of the best cocktails in the city. When 12:30 rolls around make your way to the Paseo Maritimo (the ocean strip), where you will fine a large selection of some of Europe’s most iconic clubs nestled on the Barcelona sand. All of them ready for you to take Barcelona’s night life by storm!
